Manufacturers Urge Swift Action from Congress and President Biden Ahead of White House Meeting

As anticipation builds for the upcoming White House meeting with President Biden and congressional leadership, the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) has issued a joint statement calling for urgent action on critical issues. NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons, NAM Board Chair Kathy Wengel, and NAM Board Vice Chair Blake Moret emphasized the importance of keeping the government open, passing pro-growth tax provisions, securing the border, and providing aid to Ukraine.

“In the interest of strengthening our democracy both at home and abroad, manufacturers urge Congress and President Biden to act swiftly on these crucial matters,” the statement read.

Highlighting the NAM’s longstanding commitment to supporting Ukraine, the statement referenced a resolution passed unanimously by the NAM Board of Directors two years ago, standing with the people of Ukraine in their fight for freedom and independence. It also noted President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s address to the NAM Board last year, emphasizing the importance of democracy in the face of tyranny.

“With time running short, manufacturers are looking to our leaders to act,” the statement continued. “They can address all of these priorities. In fact, they must address them all—for the future of our industry, the security of our country, and the defense of democracy.”

Timmons reiterated this message in remarks to the NAM Board, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.

In recent engagements, the NAM has solidified its commitment to supporting Ukraine, including signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ukrainian League of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs and participating in a “Rebuilding Ukraine” roundtable. Additionally, the NAM conducted a series of meetings in Europe to strengthen alliances and demonstrate support for Ukraine and democracy.

As discussions at the White House loom, the NAM’s call for action underscores the importance of addressing these pressing issues for the well-being of the nation and the global community.
